It's not a review, but I thought I'd start a discussion thread so that I can talk to any of the other seven people who bothered to go and see this worldwide.
It has died a death in cinemas, what with coming out just after The Dark Knight and also being a summer release chock full of snow (this would have been a real boon in, say, November).
I was a bit worried about how it might turn out as I'd, of course, not encountered a single positive review - nearly all of them bitching about the fact it didn't have aliens in it.
Turns out - it's very good. So there.
Turns out the reviews were written by people who wrote as though they knew the show, but actually probably just caught a couple of the big "conspiracy" episodes in season 2 and 3 and then watched the last film.
They aren't interested in a story which COULD have a supernatural element in it, but could more likely be the tale of a disgraced man pulling a fast one.
The other thing is that, after all's said and done, the plot is not the focus, but the characters' faith in their various beliefs is the real heart of the fil (hence the title), and it's about Mulder and Scully themselves - where they're at and how they feel about each other.
Before it came out, some people were talking whether it would have a "fake out kiss" like the last one. Those are the people whose minds probably exploded seeing Mulder and Scully in bed together. These are the people who didn't realise that their relationship moved on in the past couple of years, and that they even had a child together.
Amusingly - they made a film that could cater to the hardcore fan, and which was accessible enough for people who'd never seen it (who will have no problem with the relationship aspect, and will probably take to it better than anyone), but they don't have is a film that casual fans can handle which, in itself, may have been part of the problem.
Wishing it a bigger life on DVD, as it's good stuff.
